U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Veterans International Bridge in Brownsville, Texas, intercepted a major narcotics smuggling attempt, seizing 36.64 pounds of cocaine—equivalent to 13,800 lethal doses—hidden inside a 1987 Kenworth tractor. The drugs carried an estimated street value of $489,226.
The discovery was made after officers detected irregularities during a nonintrusive imaging scan and conducted a secondary inspection with the assistance of a canine unit. Sixteen concealed packages were found and removed. The vehicle and narcotics were seized, and Homeland Security Investigations has opened a criminal case.
This seizure is part of a broader effort across the Laredo Field Office, which has confiscated more than 63,000 pounds of narcotics since January 2025. CBP emphasizes that vigilance across all modes of transportation is essential to keeping dangerous drugs off American streets.
